A Love Letter To My Adrenals

To my wonderful adrenals,

Before I tell you what I need to tell you, I wanted to let you know that I am so grateful to you for looking out for me. No matter what else is going on in my life, you’re always there to help me deal with dangers when I need you (and often when I don’t too). I know that you only have my best interests at heart, and I am so grateful to you for that…

But, to be honest, I feel like you’ve become a little stifling recently. Like an over-protective parent who so badly doesn’t want me to come to hurt myself or come to harm, that you’re trying to stop me even trying. I know when you tell me that something bad could happen, it’s just your way of trying to keep me safe, but I’m OK to take some risks now and see for myself. I know that I can deal with whatever comes my way, and that you’ll always be there if I really need you

I know you always like to help me out ‘just in case’ something bad could happen. But the thing is, I don’t need you so much anymore. I can deal with being in new situations or being with new people, I can cope with giving presentations, I’m OK to just be when the kids are winding each other up. When I have hard decisions to make, I’ll be fine working it out without you, and when I don’t know what to do for my kids for the best, I’ll think on it and work it out. I’ll be OK and if I need you, if I see that there are any real dangers around, I know you’ll be there ready to jump into action straight away.

I’ve been spending a bit more time with myself recently, in that calm place inside me where I know I can be still and find peace, where I can find the answers I need and be with myself in the way that reminds me how strong I am and where I know I can cope. So, my dear adrenals, this is just to say thank you for being so wonderful  and always being there to look out for me, but you can take a step back now and have a well-earned rest

With love always
